Odisha minister puts Rs 173cr Kalamandal project in fast track

Bhubaneswar: The Rs 173-cr Kalamandal project, envisioned as the state’s largest cultural complex, is inching closer to reality, with construction work gaining momentum near Sainik School here.Culture minister Suryabanshi Suraj on Tuesday reviewed the progress of the mega project, which includes a 2,000-seat state-of-the-art auditorium and a 500-seat open-air theatre, with senior officials of the department and directed them to fast-track the remaining work to ensure early completion.The minister conducted a site visit and held a review meeting with officials of Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO), the executing agency of the project, and the Odia language, literature and culture department.Kalamandal will position itself as a landmark destination for large-scale cultural performances and events.Emphasising quality along with speed, Suryabanshi asked the officials to conduct regular review meetings and ensure strict adherence to construction standards. He underlined the need for robust fire safety measures, adequate illumination and modern facilities.The minister said that the project was progressing through coordinated efforts of the department and IDCO. He added that inputs from eminent personalities from the field of art and culture were being incorporated to make Kalamandal a world-class venue.“Kalamandal will be completed at the earliest and formally inaugurated thereafter,” said the minister, adding that the complex will play a crucial role in promoting Odia culture nationally and globally.
