Bhubaneswar: Even as the cancellation of National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2026 propelled the future of lakhs of medical aspirants into uncertainty, education counsellors and academic experts in Odisha urged students not to panic and instead adopt a structured preparation strategy for the likely re-examination.The National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to announce fresh dates for the exam soon. The setback has left students mentally exhausted, especially those who paused their preparations after appearing for the exam.Experts said priority for aspirants must be regaining emotional balance and gradually resuming revision instead of rushing into intense study schedules.“Students should first accept that the situation is beyond their control. Anxiety and frustration are natural, but dwelling on uncertainty will affect performance in the next exam,” said city-based psychologist and student mentor Rakhi Mohanty. She also cautioned students against excessive social media consumption and speculation surrounding the re-examination. “Rumours about the difficulty level, fresh paper leaks or postponement will increase stress levels. Students should rely only on official NTA notifications,” Mohanty said. She advised parents to create a supportive atmosphere at home, noting that many aspirants are coping with disappointment, anxiety and loss of confidence following the cancellation.Academics asked students to revisit their preparation modules and focus on disciplined revision. “Most students completed their preparation before May 3. This is the time for smart revision, mock tests and maintaining consistency,” said educationist Poly Patnaik.Experts also recommended proper sleep schedules, light physical activity and regular breaks to avoid burnout during the uncertain waiting period.Sources said several coaching institutes and schools in the state already decided to resume revision classes and mock test sessions, anticipating a re-examination within the next few weeks.Patnaik said students who remain mentally composed and continue disciplined preparation despite the setback would be better positioned when the fresh examination is conducted.
