CM Majhi to meet Shah in Kol before BJP MLAs’ meet

Bhubaneswar: CM Mohan Charan Majhi will attend a crucial consultation meeting with Union home minister Amit Shah and West Bengal BJP leaders in Kolkata on Friday as part of the party’s efforts to pick its legislature party leader, who is set to take oath as chief minister on Saturday.Majhi, who was named BJP central co-observer on Tuesday for the exercise, with Shah as observer, has already held discussions with the Union home minister on the issue. His appointment marks his first major political assignment outside Odisha and signals the central leadership’s growing confidence in him barely two years after his surprise elevation as chief minister. A four-time tribal MLA, Majhi’s rapid rise within the party has been closely watched, with the Bengal role seen as politically significant despite being secondary in protocol.BJP sources said Shah and Majhi will hold further consultations with newly elected MLAs and key state leaders ahead of the BJP legislature party meeting scheduled for Friday afternoon. The meeting will formally elect the legislature party leader, whose name is likely to be announced in the presence of Shah and Majhi.Sources said Majhi will stay back in Kolkata to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new BJP CM. The event is likely to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president Nitin Nabin, several Union ministers, and chief ministers and deputy chief ministers of BJP-ruled states.
