Cuttack: A 10-kg pangolin was rescued from a village under Phulnakhara forest range in Cuttack district on Tuesday, following timely alert by locals ensured swift action by forest officials.The animal was first spotted late Monday night in Gobindpur-Srisundarpur village. Alarmed, they alerted the forest department. A team of officials reached the spot and carried out a careful rescue operation.The pangolin was initially examined at the veterinary hospital in Nuabazar and later shifted to Nandankanan Zoological Park for observation. Experts there will continue to monitor its health before taking a call on its release into the wild.Cuttack city DFO Biswaraj Panda said, “Pangolins are shy, nocturnal animals. Finding one in a human settlement is uncommon. Our team ensured it was rescued without injury and sent to Nandankanan for proper care.”
