Heat forces 2-day extension of Ganjam schools’ closure

Berhampur: The Ganjam district administration on Thursday extended the closure of all schools across the district by two more days from Friday for the students due to the prevailing hot and humid conditions in the district. On Tuesday, it had declared the school closure for three days, with the temperature in the district hovering between 35 and 38 degrees Celsius. “The decision to close the schools from Shishu Vatika (pre-school) to Class XII from April 21 to 23 was taken to safeguard the health and well-being of the students,” said A K Patro, district education officer (DEO) Ganjam, in an office order issued on Monday. “As similar situation prevails in the district, we have decided to extend the closure by two days, April 24 and 25,” he added. The DEO said supplementary examinations for classes V and VIII would be held according to the schedule. Heads of institutions will ensure adequate drinking water, ORS, first-aid arrangements for safety and security of examinees. The admissions, administrative functions, Census duty and other essential school activities will continue as usual during this period. Teaching and non-teaching staff will attend school as usual,” he added.
