Cuttack: Security has been tightened across Cuttack ahead of Ram Navami celebrations on Friday, with the commissionerate police deploying extensive manpower and surveillance to prevent any untoward incident.More than 30 platoons of police force have been deployed across the city, particularly in areas identified as sensitive. In addition, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel have been pressed into service to strengthen the security grid.Police said extensive drone surveillance and over 300 CCTV cameras are actively monitoring key routes, marketplaces and congregation points, while special control rooms have been set up for real-time surveillance.Police have also conducted flag marches in sensitive areas, including Dargha Bazar, Choudhury Bazaar, Dolamundai and Buxi Bazaar.Special barricading arrangements have been made in vulnerable localities, including Dargha Bazar, which had witnessed communal tension during Dussehra idol immersion procession last year. The incident had led to violent clashes, injuries, arrests and a temporary suspension of internet services, prompting authorities to treat the area as highly sensitive during major religious events.Deputy commissioner of police Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo said comprehensive security arrangements have been put in place across Cuttack, a total of 30 platoons of police force deployed, flag marches conducted in sensitive pockets and adequate CRPF personnel deployed to maintain law and order during the Ram Navami processions.“We are keeping a close watch through CCTV surveillance and have made special barricading and static deployment in vulnerable areas like Dargha Bazar. Citizens are requested to cooperate with the police and refrain from spreading rumours or misinformation,” he said.To maintain strict vigil, police have intensified patrolling, set up checkpoints and deployed plain-clothes personnel in crowded areas. Senior officers have personally supervised the arrangements and reviewed the security deployment on a daily basis.Police have also held coordination meetings with organisers of religious processions and peace committees to ensure a peaceful festival.Dnyandeo said special traffic arrangements have also been put in place in view of the Ram Navami rallies across the city.Police have prepared a detailed traffic plan, imposing diversions and regulating vehicular movement along major procession routes to avoid congestion and ensure smooth passage of emergency services.Traffic personnel have been deployed at key intersections, while commuters have been advised to follow designated routes and cooperate with authorities to prevent disruptions during the festivities.
