Cuttack: A special Pocso court here on Friday sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a five-year-old girl last June.The additional district judge (Cuttack), Himansu Sekhar Singh, ruled, “Considering the settled position of law and the evidence on record, the prosecution is found to have established beyond reasonable doubt that the victim was very much less than 12 years of age at the time of occurrence of the crime.” Accordingly, the 39-year-old convict was sentenced and asked to pay a fine of Rs 20,000.
The rape survivor’s case was also recommended to the district legal services authority for granting her a compensation of Rs 4 lakh. The girl’s father reported the case at a police station in Cuttack city on June 7, 2025, alleging that the man, who used to visit his house, sexually assaulted her when she was playing with her friends. The incident had taken place on the same day around 7 am to 8 am and the accused was arrested on June 8.
