5 killed in 2 accidents in Kandhamal and Ganjam districts

Berhampur: Five persons, including a three-year-old boy, were killed and three others injured in two separate road accidents in Ganjam and Kandhamal districts on Holi on Wednesday afternoon.Four persons died and a woman was seriously injured when two motorcycles collided head-on at Kundli chhaka under Kandhamal district’s Gochhapada police station limits. A 28-year-old man died and two others were injured after a motorcycle collided with a two-wheeler at Digapahandi in Ganjam districtThe deceased were identified as Babula Kanhar (28), Baman Kanhar (37), Kartika Kanhar (3) of Patilipadia village, Tulu Digal (30) of Takiriguda in Kandhamal district and Siba Gouda (28) of Satapentha Gopalpur near Digapahandi in Ganjam district.The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their family members on Thursday after autopsy, said police. Binita Kanhar, mother of the deceased child was one among the seriously injured persons in the accident and all are undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.After celebrating Holi, Babula, Baman, Banita along with her child were going towards a nearby village on a motorcycle, when their vehicle collided with another motorcycle which was riding by Tulu, as a result three persons died, while Tulu died in the hospital at Gochhapada, said police. Similarly, Siba Gouda who was going towards Digapahandi in a scooty collided with a motorcycle coming from opposite direction near Digapahandi in Ganjam district. Local people rushed Siba to Digapahandi hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Other two persons have been referred to medical college and hospital after their condition became serious, police said.
