Kendrapada: The district and sessions judge of Jagatsinghpur on Saturday sentenced Prakash Khatua (35) of Balabhadrapur village under Balikuda police station limits to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for killing Bibek Rout (30), eight years ago.The court also imposed a Rs 10,000 fine, with an additional six months’ imprisonment in case of default. The district and sessions judge, Pradumnaya Kumar Rout, convicted Khatua under IPC section 304(1) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) for stabbing Rout to death on Jan 15, 2018.According to the prosecution, the murder stemmed from past enmity. Police arrested the accused after investigation and the court held him guilty after examining 21 witnesses and eight material exhibits, said public prosecutor Tapan Pal.
