Berhampur: All 35 inmates, including 18 girls, of the govt-run child care institutions (CCI) in Gajapati district — mostly orphans — who appeared for the HSC examination, have cleared it, said Arun Kumar Tripathy, district child protection officer (DCPO).District’s child welfare committee (CWC) chairman Amiya Kumar Tripathy and the DCPO among others visited the institutes on Sunday to wish them success.Champabati Bhuyan, who was picked up by the district administration from Nuagada area after she was orphaned three years ago, and housed in an orphanage in Paralakhemundi, has secured A-2 grade in the exam. Similarly another girl from Mohana area, who was housed in a CCI for the last eight years, got B-2 grade.The DCPO said seven have secured B-1 and 11 B-2 grades. Others passed in C and D gradesOut of the 35 inmates, 32 are orphan and picked up by the district administration in different years,while three girls are the survivors under the Protection of Children from Sexually Offences Act, and housed in a CCI on the direction of the CWC, said Tripathy.Tripathy said they had engaged special tutors to coach the inmates before their annual exam and focused on their success in the test. “They have also worked hard. We are happy as all the inmates secured good percentage,” he said, adding they will conduct a counselling session of all the successful children soon to know about their goals in life. “Accordingly, we will help them pursue their higher studies. Besides, the administration has asked them to join the Industrial Training Institute and women polytechnic for the development of their skills and get jobs,” he said.
