Bhubaneswar: A childline and police team rescued a minor girl on Saturday whike she was being married off in Nayagarh district’s Bhapur area. The groom fled on seeing the team. Police sources said, the district child protection office (DCPO) received a tip-off through its toll-free number about the incident. “We rescued the girl and handed her over to the child welfare committee. The girl will be counselled. Her family members are being questioned,” said DCPO (Nayagarh) CBM Padhan. He said the groom has been identified as Dilip Parida. The DCPO will probe allegations that an anganwadi worker was involved as an agent in the marriage.
