Woman claims mental, financial harassment by MLA

Balasore: A retired headmistress has lodged a police complaint against the Rairangpur MLA Jalen Naik, accusing him of mentally and financially exploiting her for over 32 years. While an FIR is yet to be registered, a station diary has been made based on her complaint.The matter came to light on Tuesday when the woman (61) confronted the MLA at Ratansahi market in Mayurbhanj district while he was sitting near a shop. Sources said a heated argument reportedly ensued between the two, and in a fit of rage, the woman allegedly hurled a stone at the MLA’s vehicle, damaging its windshield.Naik (48) reportedly left the spot and later that day, the woman filed a complaint at Tiring police station, seeking protection and legal action. Despite repeated attempts, Naik could not be contacted for his comment.Reports claimed the two used to live in the same locality in Mayurbhanj and that’s how they met. She alleged that Naik repeatedly sought financial assistance from her throughout his political career, including during elections when he contested for the posts of zilla parishad member and later as MLA.Rairangpur SDPO Birendra Kumar Senapati said police are closely monitoring the situation. “No formal FIR has been registered so far. However, we are keeping a close watch on the developments,” he said.
