Kendrapada: A 51-year-old autorickshaw driver was sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment for raping a minor girl two years ago at a village in Kendrapada. The sentencing was pronounced by the additional district session judge-cum-special judge, fast track court, Kendrapada on Saturday.The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict and failure to pay that would result in his sentence being increased by six months. The court also directed the Odisha State Legal Services Authority to pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the rape survivor.As per the case of the prosecution, the girl was returning to her house from a nearby temple on Aug 11, 2024 when the man offered her a lift on his autorickshaw and she agreed to go with him. But he took her to his house and raped her there. He also threatened her of dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident.
