Rourkela: An 18-year-old woman died after being hit by a speeding SUV in Rourkela on Thursday, while the car driver and a passenger sustained grievous injuries. According to sources, the SUV, travelling from Panposh to Deogaon lost control on Balu Ghat-Rooptola stretch on NH-143, triggering a pile-up. The vehicle first rammed into a roadside cart, then collided with a dumper, and went on to hit another woman and subsequently the 18-year-old standing by the roadside, before overturning.Sabina Soren of Rooptola succumbed to her injuries before she could be taken to hospital. The body has been kept in a morgue. The injured occupants of the SUV were taken to RGH, Rourkela.Eyewitnesses alleged that the occupants of the SUV appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. An investigation was initiated into the matter, said S Jhankar, inspector in charge of Raghunathpalli police station.
