Puri servitor suspended for 6 months in fake flag-tying receipt case

Puri: Shree Jagannath Temple Administration has suspended a servitor, Ranjit Kar, for allegedly issuing a fake receipt to a pilgrim for tying a ceremonial temple flag atop the shrine. The incident came to light after a pilgrim from Hyderabad, Bijendra Kedia, was brought to the temple’s branch office by the servitor on April 1 and was shown a receipt claiming permission for tying a 14-hand flag on the temple. During verification, the receipt was found to be forged and officials confirmed that no fee had been deposited in the pilgrim’s name for the ritual.Following an inquiry, the servitor reportedly admitted before the temple supervisor that he had issued the fake receipt. The temple administration subsequently sought an explanation from him. As his reply was found unsatisfactory, he was placed under suspension on Tuesday.Chief adminstrator Arabinda Padhee said the suspension would remain in force for six months. The administration also warned that if the servitor attempts to influence or threaten any other servitors during this period, stricter disciplinary action may follow.
