Bhubaneswar: Odisha vigilance on Sunday arrested a revenue inspector posted in Cuttack district while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 for submitting a favourable report in a land mutation case.The revenue inspector under Tangi-Choudwar tehsil was caught red-handed in his office while taking the bribe from a land owner.According to vigilance officials, the complainant had applied online on March 10 for conversion of his patta land into homestead land as per the revenue and disaster management department guidelines.However, the revenue inspector allegedly demanded Rs 30,000 for furnishing a favourable report in the mutation case and threatened to withhold the report if the money was not paid.Unable to bear the pressure, the owner approached state vigilance, following which a trap was laid. The vigilance team nabbed the revenue inspector while he was accepting the bribe.“The entire bribe amount of Rs 30,000 was recovered and seized from his possession in the presence of witnesses. Chemical tests conducted on his hand and pant pocket wash gave positive results, confirming handling of the tainted money,” a vigilance official said.
