Industry sealed by OSPCB over non-compliance

Jharsuguda: The regional office of Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB), Jharsuguda, on Friday sealed an industrial explosives manufacturing unit in the district following repeated complaints and alleged violations of pollution control norms.The closure action was carried out by officials of the Regional Pollution Control Board, Jharsuguda, in the presence of Jharsuguda tehsildar. According to officials, the decision was taken after receiving several public complaints and observing repeated non-compliance with prescribed environmental and pollution control measures by the industrial unit.Officials from the regional office stated that the unit had allegedly failed to adhere to environmental standards despite earlier instructions, prompting the board to issue closure directions under applicable environmental regulations.The OSPCB has warned that closure directions may be issued to any industry found violating environmental regulations, as part of efforts to ensure strict compliance with pollution control measures in the region.Jharsuguda tehsildar Sadakar Kumbhar said, “The industry was not adhering to pollution norms despite repeated complaints from villagers and directions issued by OSPCB to comply with the required standards. However, the company failed to meet these compliance requirements and continued operating the plant. In this regard, as per the closure order issued by the district administration, we have sealed the industry until the necessary compliance is met.” However, manager of the firm Vijay Kumar Dubey, said, “We are already working on it and very shortly the compliance will be done.”
