Kendrapada: A 35-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday on charges of raping a 5-year-old girl on Tuesday evening in Jagatsinghpur district. The girl is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Jagatsinghpur.The incident took place when the girl was returning home after playing with her friends. The accused allegedly stopped her on the way, dragged her to an isolated place and raped her. The girl told her parents about the incident and her mother lodged the FIR on Wednesday. The accused also threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the incident. During interrogation, the accused confessed to his crime, police sources said.The girl suffered serious injuries to her private parts and other parts of her body. The accused was produced in a Jagatsinghpur court that rejected his bail petition and remanded him to judicial custody.
