He received his first National Film Award as a Best Actor for his first film “Mrigaya’ in 1976.
Mithun Chakraborty was born in Hyderabad as Gouranga Chakraborty.
Mithun was connected with the Naxalites group.He lost his brother in a brutal accident after which he decided to leave the group.
He is one of the martial arts expert and is graduated from the prestigious Scottish Church College in Kolkata before graduating from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune.

Mithun became an overnight star with the hit of “Mera Rakshak”in 1978.
He was featured as the male lead in his film ‘Surakshaa’ that released in year 1979. He played the role of Gunmaster named G-9 in the film.
Mithun’s famous dance number, ‘I am a disco dancer’ from his film ‘Disco Dancer’, was a rocking hit in 1982. The song still inspires various filmmakers and actors of Bollywood today. The song was reshooted by Ranbir Kapoor in his film ‘Anjaana Anjaani’ and was actted by Mithun himself in his comedy film ‘Golmaal 3’. Aamir Khan’s movie ‘Delhi Belly’ also included the song ‘I hate you like I love you’ which was inspired by this brilliant star.

He was nominated as a Member of Parliament by the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee.
He did played a important role of mediator between Pranab Mukherjee and Mamata Banerjee, winning the Congressman the support of the Trinamool chief in the 2012 presidential election.
