BJP leader Dr Saroj Pandey after defeating Congress Candidate Lekhram Sahu has been elected to the Rajya Sabha from Chhattisgarh. She secured 51 votes in her favour while Sahu received only 36 votes.

Dr. Saroj started her political career with student politics. She was the student leader in the Bhilai Women’s College. Saroj made many records in Politics. She joined politics at an early age and has been a Mayor, MLA and MP. Saroj was also elected for the 15th Lok Sabha elections from Durg.
Her name is mentioned in Guinness Book of World Records and Limca Book of Records for receiving the Best Mayor Award for 10 consecutive years. In 2008 election, she defeated Brijmohan by nearly 15 thousand votes in the Assembly elections from Vaishali Nagar seat of Bhilai assembly.
Saroj made an important position in politics without having any political background and family political history. She was the general secretary and spokesperson of the party. She holds the position of National Secretary of BJP. Saroj was also appointed as the national president of BJP Mahila Morcha in 2008.
After losing the Durg Lok Sabha election in 2014 against Congress, she decided to enter Rajya Sabha.
Saroj Statement after entering Rajya Sabha
After her victory, she told the media that she would work in the interest of the nation and the state. She will also work for party President Amit Shah’s Mission 65 in the state. She said that her life is for the people of the country and will give her entire time to them.
Chief Minister Raman Singh told the reporters that all the 49 MLAs of the party voted for Pandey.
She also got the vote of BSP MLA Keshav Chandra and an independent MLA Vimal Chopra.
