The Ayushman (Bhav) Bharat Program:- Finally, the most awaited Union Budget 2018 is out. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley claims one of the schemes as World’s largest government-funded healthcare program. The Union budget clearly shows the vision of government, ahead of 2019 general elections. Finance minister opens the lock of treasury but there are some questions, whose answers aren’t digestible. The Ayushman Bharat Program is the actual hero of Union Budget 2018.
Ayushman Bharat is launched in order to make intervention under the health care program, ENTIRELY. The initiatives under the program are:-
- National Health Protection Scheme.
- Health and Wellness Scheme.
Under National Health Protection Scheme, the Finance minister announced, “We are now launching a flagship national health protection scheme to cover 10 crores poor and vulnerable, families. This is approximately 50 crore beneficiaries, by providing them up to Rs 5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization”. This is said to be world’s largest government-funded health care program.
Furthermore, 24 new government Hospitals and Medical Colleges will be introduced or by promoting the existing district hospitals in the country. FM laid emphasis to ensure that at least 1 Medical College should be there for every 3 Parliamentary Constituencies. The government is taking such vital steps, in order to upgrade the quality of medical education and healthcare.
Health and Wellness Centre Scheme is considered as the base of India’s health care structure. Under this, 1.5 health centers will be set up. They will lead the healthcare system directly to the homes of people. These centers will also provide health care for non-communicable diseases and maternal & child health services. Essential Medicines, drugs, and diagnostic services will be provided.
There are some reasons behind why the government is paying much attention to the Health of India. A huge population of India, still mortgage and sell their belongings, in order to get desired medical treatment. Under Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY), poor families get an annual coverage of Rs. 30,000. The current initiatives of State government will supplement these in taking health care to a larger mass. Higher health insurance cover is also seen as leading to a higher life expectancy.
The speech of Finance Minister sounds soothing. In order to let avail the mentioned schemes, a systematic approach and setup is necessary. Let’s see, is 2018 is the year with Achhe Din or not?
